The guards moved among us, placing dentist-office Dixie cups of what looked like water in front of everyone. A separate guard came to where I sat on the floor, clutching my knees. She lightly took my arm.
“Please return to the table.” Her voice was smooth. “You’ve had a shock. Have some water.”
I wasn’t about to drink anything they gave us. It was Day One all over again, only this time, it was Guyana. We were all being served the Kool-Aid. Next stop, mass graves.
Stupidly, my friends and fellow prisoners had no such qualms. Didn’t anybody watch the History channel? I stared as they all took shaky sips without hesitation.
“Just take a small sip.” The female guard was still with me. “It’ll calm you.”
My throat constricted. My whole body was on revolt. Shaking my head, I didn’t meet her eyes. I only stared at the white cup of water. Braxton was at my side, and he drained his. What the hell made him do that? Did he want to die?
Seconds ticked past and nothing happened. Nobody passed out. Nobody did anything strange—except forget what we’d just witnessed here. Braxton picked up his fork to finish his lunch. They all did. Like one of us had not just been taken out “swiftly and finally.”
Only he had, and I was reeling from the shock.

Prentiss

“Hearing that story makes me wish I could have been the one to protect you,” he said.
“I don’t need your protection,” I sniffed. “I’m little, but I can take care of myself.”
“Everyone needs help. Sometimes.” He reached up and slid the hair back from his face exposing the scar on his cheek.
I didn’t know how to answer that. I still didn’t know how he’d gotten those scars, but more than that, I didn’t know who I wanted protecting me now.
I stepped through the fence. “I guess this is good-night,” I whispered.
“Sleep well, doctor.”
I shook my head and sneaked past the cabins across the dark yard and into the dormitory. Once inside I stood for several minutes with my face pressed against the doorjamb.
Why was this happening? I wasn’t this kind of person. Other girls got their feelings all mixed up over boys, but I didn’t. That question had been settled in my mind years ago, and yet here I was acting like a starry-eyed little twit. I was failing in my job to rescue us. Everyone was counting on me, and here I was useless, fighting this battle with myself. I had to get it together. I had to get myself back on track, for all of us.

My Review
Why was this happening? I wasn’t this kind of person. Other girls got their feelings all mixed up over boys, but I didn’t. That question had been settled in my mind years ago, and yet here I was acting like a starry-eyed little twit . I was failing in my job to rescue us. Everyone was counting on me, and here I was useless, fighting this battle with myself. I had to get it together. I had to get myself back on track, for all of us.

This is my first time reading a Leigh Talbert Moore book, and I am officially a fan. I loved this series so much. It was so different and unique, I didn't know what to expect. From beginning to end I was hooked, I couldn't wait till I had the next episode in my hands. The story it self, flowed at the perfect pace. There was always something happening to keep you intrigued. All the characters in this series were beautifully written. The main character Prentiss has her future all worked out, until she is taken captive. She is then forced to take action, to help her friends and family escape an unknown future. While in the midst of planning her escape, she devises a plan to get all the information she can from her Captives. Which leads her to my favorite character, Gallatin. Oh where do I even begin. I was on the fence with him at the beginning, because I didn't want anything or anyone coming between Prentiss and her boyfriend Jackson. But as the story goes on, Gallatin grew on me. I hated that he did, but I couldn't help it. He is quiet, sweet and absolutely sexy in his own way. There is just something about him that draws you in. If you are wondering, Yes this series does have a Love Triangle. I am not a fan of them to be honest, but the way it was written and betrayed in this series, was perfect for the story. Just when you think you know who she ends up with, you would be wrong. I wanted so much to love both guys. I did for a while. Then as the story continues, secrets are revealed and futures are not as certain as they once were. Your heart will break for Prentiss with everything she has gone through and is still going through. Her choices are not the easiest to make, but she makes them, knowing that she is doing what she knows in heart to be right. The ending of this series was absolutely perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better ending. I really hope that Leigh Talbert Moore continues Prentiss's story. There is so much more to be told.

I highly recommend this series. You will not be disappointed.

Excerpt:

“Ready?” I ask as I approach him and continue on into the kitchen to get my purse.

“Yup, and I am starving. Let’s go.” He advances towards me. “Damn, woman! You’re not wearing those jeans, are you? No fucking way.”

Bewildered and totally caught off guard by his statement, I stand there with my hands on my hips.

“What the hell are you talking about? There isn’t anything wrong with these jeans.”

“No there’s not, and that’s the problem. Your sweet, fine ass looks too good in those jeans. I don’t want to have to kick someone’s ass for checking you out, especially when I have the girls with me. Can you go put on a baggy pair of sweatpants or something?”

“What are you playing at, Adam?” I remove my hands from my hips and place one of them on his forehead. “Are you coming down with something?”

He gently pulls me into his rock hard body.

“Oh, sweet cheeks. I came down with something three months ago when I checked out that ass of yours when I was in Texas,” he says with humor and as low-key as he can be. “And I am not playing.”

“You’re unbelievable,” I say, rolling my eyes.

Adam lifts me up onto the counter and whispers in my ear words that leave a tingle of pure pleasure down my spine.

“Although I love every tantalizing, sexy curve of your body, I am most definitely an ass man, sweetheart. And this ass,” he says as he places his hands underneath me and gives my bottom a light squeeze, “Has been in my dreams for the past three months. I can’t wait until I can feel it uncovered because Erin, I am going to make you feel like you have never felt before.”

“Oh my God, Adam.” I can barely get out a word as I feel my throat tighten up and, holy hotness, this man is mentally seducing me and I love it.

“You feel it too, don’t you, Erin?” he speaks in a ragged, raspy voice as he trails soft kisses up my neck.

“I do,” I whimper.

She has enjoyed her dating lifestyle, but when her best friend makes a bet that she won't ever be able to date a normal guy, her competitive nature takes control and she vows to change the game.
When Paisley meets the incredibly handsome and practically perfect Corbin Ray, she begins to think keeping her word might be easier than she thought. But when an accidental discovery reveals that Corbin is in the Army, she knows she must run the other way and never look back. Although it kills her, she aims to move on and look for a new prospect.
There's just one small problem.
Paisley's been assigned a new client at work, and his name is Corbin Ray.

Immerse yourself in this fun and irresistibly naughty game of cat and mouse.

Song Chaser:
For more than a year, Tanner West has tried to shake his feelings for his long time best friend, Paisley Bronson. She was the perfect girl to fit the lyrics in all his favorite songs – the girl he had always wanted. When she fell in love with another man before Tanner had the chance to tell her how he felt, he was left with no resolve to find love again. Burying himself in school and easy girls has become his new lifestyle, but when Kellee Brooks shows up at his favorite bar, he begins to think there may be another verse to his song, after all.
Kellee Brooks moved to New York City for one thing: escape. Growing up in a small town where her entire life was planned out for her, she’s desperate to break free and find herself without following the same path as her mom. Kellee thought working at the local dive bar would mean more money for school, but when she meets the smoldering, scarred honey eyes of Tanner West, she finds there’s much more hiding in the smoky building than just a few tips.
With Paisley still haunting Tanner and Kellee vowing to save anyone the trouble of loving her, will the pain and fear keep them apart – or will they find a way to rewrite their song together?
Break free with this heartbreaking story of letting go and letting love in.

Straight No Chaser:
Tanner West has been through a lot when it comes to his best friend, Paisley Bronson. From being there through her dark past to falling in love with her while she fell for someone else, their story is far from perfect. After Tanner found his true love in Kellee Brooks, things began to fall into place. But when Paisley calls Tanner with surprising news, asking him to step up to the best friend plate once again, he must decide if he's up for the challenge.
This is a short story bromance and should be read after Tag Chaser and Song Chaser.

“I will do everything I can to be the man that you want, the man that the seven-year-old you used to dream about. I will bring you flowers, I’ll take care of you when you’re sick, I’ll give you space when you need it and I’ll never leave your side when you want someone there. I want to be better than I am because of you, Paisley.”

I ABSOLUTELY loved this book. I seriously can't believe I waited so long to read it. This book starts off with a bet from the main character Paisley's best friend McKenzie. Paisley is to stop her Tag Chasing ways and try a real relationship with a normal guy, one that doesn't wear dog tags. Being who she is, Paisley doesn't back down and takes the bet. But boy does she regret it. Not to soon after Paisley makes the bet, she meets Corbin. He is everything I want in a man, so no wonder Paisley wanted him. He is Charming, Sweet, and Sexy as Hell. Oh yeah, did I forget to tell you that he is also in the Army. She finds that out by snooping through his things while he takes unexpected phone call. Realizing he is in the Army, Paisley runs for the hills because she is determined to win that bet. She literally ran out on Corbin at his hotel room. Seriously?! Yeah Seriously! Well after she leaves him she goes home and does what she does best when she emotionally overwhelmed, she bakes. Going to work the next morning she thinks she is in the clear, but low and behold who shows up at her work, Corbin. He becomes her new client. He is wanting to open up a gym.  That's when the story takes off. He is determined to not give up without a fight until she agrees to give him a shot. Let me tell you, that Paisley puts up one hell of a fight. After everything that happened with her parents, with her dad cheating on her mom, she doesn't trust anybody. She always keeps people, especially guys at an arms reach away. Never willing to get to close, with the fear of having any relationship go through, what her parents went through. She holds a lot of resentment towards her dad that affects her relationships now. Thats why she chose to be a Tag Chaser, knowing that she would never have to get to close because the guys would eventually leave for deployment, so things never got to serious. But Corbin changed all that. Paisley felt this instant connection with Corbin that scared her. She had never felt this strongly for someone and she tries to fight her growing feelings for him, and Corbin fights right back for her to open up to him. Corbin's very open with her to a point. He opens up to her about his past and wants her to know him and what he wants out of life. But their is one thing that he has not opened up about, which is his phone calls, to who shall be named later on. That leaves poor Paisley wondering who is calling, is it his sister, girlfriend or worse his wife. At this point though she is a goner. Corbin slowly starts taking down Paisley's walls, that she built to keep everyone of interest out. Not knowing rather to trust him or not. She finally, I mean FINALLY gives in and let's him do just that, and slowly let him in. She is falling for Corbin and falling for him hard. And oh my goodness! That first sex scene between Paisley and Corbin was freaking off the charts. Trust me their sexy scenes seem to get hotter and hotter as the book goes on. There is a scene with a restaurant kitchen and the stripping of clothes and a camera that was to die for. Loved it. So, after everything seems to be going right for Paisley, her best friend Tanner enters the picture. Tanner is hot, charming, funny and most of all dependable. He is always there for Paisley, no matter what. But as his visit with her wears on, he is starting to see how much she is falling for Corbin. Which leads to him getting jealous. While Paisley enjoys having Tanner there, she starts to question their friendship and where it's heading. Then one night they are hanging out drinking, and they finally Kiss. Not just a peck either, a full on deep kiss. But as realization hits Paisley on what she is doing, she pulls away from the kiss feeling guilty for having crossed that line with her best friend while falling for Corbin. I literally was yelling at her to stop. Don't get me wrong I love Tanner, but nobody will compare to Corbin in my eyes. Paisley belongs with Corbin. So after that mistake she goes home and Corbin surprises her with a weekend away. More than ready to spend some one on one time with Corbin, she agrees. This right here was a very pivotal moment in their relationship. Paisley finally realizes that her feelings for Corbin are far stronger than she wanted to believe, she was falling in love with him. This was when I also fell hard for Corbin. He is such a sweet, caring and loving individual. He treats Paisley so good. Their weekend away was full of surprises that completely swept Paisley off her feet. The day before the are supposed to leave to go back home, Corbin gets a phone call. But being indisposed in the bathroom, Paisley decides to answer it. I was screaming at her not to do it and she did anyway. Of course you can probably guess what happens next, she once again feels hurt, betrayed and angry about Corbin not telling her the truth about who kept calling him. So of course who does she call to save her, Tanner, who else?! Which leads to Corbin feeling furious and hurt all the same, she didn't even give Corbin a chance to explain, she just left. Then getting to the end of the book, I am a straight out mess. What will happen next? Will Paisley forgive Corbin and give him a chance to explain? Will she try to move from Corbin with Tanner? Will Tanner finally admit his feelings for Paisley? Who was on that phone call? Will Paisley finally forgive her dad and move on from that hurt? You want to know don't you?! Well read the book, I am not going to spoil it for you. But I will tell you, that ending was Perfect! I couldn't have asked for a better ending. Corbin is officially added to my favorite all time book boyfriends. With that being said, I want more Corbin!

This was one of those books for me, that I connected with the main character on such a personal level. I have gone through a lot of what Paisley went through. So, I understood why she felt the way she felt  towards her Dad and Corbin, having gone through pretty much the same circumstances in my life. This book left me feeling that maybe one day I will meet my Corbin and have the kind of relationship that's filled with Faith, Hope and Love like theirs. Thank you Kandi Steiner for giving us such and Amazing story and Corbin. I will definitely be reading more of her work. She has a real talent for it. I definitely recommend this book, you will not be disappointed.

I rolled us together onto our sides, wrapping both my arms around her waist and burying my face in her hair. Her hands slid down my arms until our fingers entwined, and we held each other through the whispers of afterglow.
All those nights in the desert, all those conversations. I never could get Stuart to see how great a wife, a home could be. Now he was pulling me away from mine.
I softly kissed the top of Melissa’s shoulder, and she struggled to get free, so she could turn and face me. Sliding closer, she wrapped her arms around my neck, and our bodies touched everywhere, shoulders to chest to hip to knee, even our noses met—just before she kissed my lips. I pushed her onto her back and parted them, sweeping my tongue inside for a deeper kiss that earned me another little noise.
My lips moved to her cheek, and I held myself over her. “Stuart wouldn’t be lost if he had this.”
Reaching up, she held my face, lightly tracing her thumbs over my cheeks. “Aren’t you the same age? And he’s never had a serious relationship?”
My brows pulled together as I thought about it. “If so, he’s never told me. I mean, he can get laid whenever he wants, but he never lets it go far. He says women are a distraction.”
Blue eyes narrowed. “How many distractions did you have in the service?”
That made me laugh, and I moved to lie beside her. “None. I was with Allison, and then… I guess I shared his opinion for a while. Until you.”
Those dark years after my first wife died seemed so far away now that I had Melissa and Dex. When the cancer took Allison so cruelly and so fast, I turned to stone, my heart a ball of rage and bitterness. I’d done my duty to God and country and came home planning a long life with my wife, starting a family, building a home. She was gone before we ever even had the chance.
When I met Melissa, everything changed. She was beautiful and kind and strong and so sexy. She soothed the anger in my heart. She healed me with her love, and she gave me a son. I could remember my past, of course, but it made my present so much more precious.
She rolled up beside me. “I love you.”
“I love you more.” I smiled, touching her cheek, and she continued.
“So what does all of this mean for us? What are you thinking?”
My eyes went back to the ceiling. “I might have to leave you for a bit if he needs help.”
“Derek! He’s a grown man.” She fell back on the bed, arms crossed, and it was my turn to prop up beside her.
“He saved my life, Mel. If he’s in trouble, I have to be there for him.”
“Doesn’t he have a family?”
“His dad was killed in the service. It’s just his mom, Patrick, and their little sister Amy.” With a big sigh, I rolled onto both elbows, onto my stomach. “Amy’s a college kid, and he’d rather punch Patrick in the face than take help from him.”
“Sounds like a prick.”
I couldn’t help laughing again. “I know you love Patrick, but I had that initial response to him myself.”
“Patrick is one of the good guys. If you can’t see that—”
“Settle down, I can see that. He might color outside the lines, but he manages to turn it around and come out on top. He’s a good man.”
That satisfied her. She smiled and relaxed her crossed arms, I reached out and pulled her against my side. “It’s more than an obligation. I want to be there for Stuart. You’d feel the same way if it was Elaine.”
She couldn’t argue with that, so we were quiet a moment. A tiny squeal from down the hall broke the silence, and we both grinned. I was out of the bed first, heading down the hall without bothering to grab underwear.
Of course, Mel catcalled after me. “Holy shit! Check out that rear view!”
Dammit again. Stuart had better have a good reason for pulling me away from this.

Mariska
“I’m not leaving,” I gasped, needing him to stop.
He didn’t stop. He gave me three more swift thrusts before holding himself deep inside me, leaning over my shoulder as he groaned through his orgasm. He pulsed, filling me, then growing still. My heart beat so hard, and I couldn’t move. My bones were liquid as I lay on the bed.
Two more breaths, and he climbed onto the mattress, pulling me with him. I couldn’t resist if I wanted to as he wrapped me in his arms, holding me against his chest. His face was at my shoulder, buried in my hair, and he breathed deeply. We were both panting. Holding him, I could feel his pulse at my temple.
“Stuart,” I whispered.
“You’re mine.” He rumbled against my skin. “You don’t leave me.”
My jaw clenched. I was still recovering from that blazing fuck, and I hated how shockingly true his words were. I’d need the strength of Hercules to walk away from him. At the same time, I knew I had to stay strong.
“But you can leave me?”
He didn’t answer. He only held me firm against his chest. Our breath swirled in and out, mixing and mingling, and I wondered if he’d ever let me go. I wondered if I ever wanted him to. After a few moments, he did relax. He reached down and pulled the Indian blanket over me. Kissing my shoulder, he went to the bathroom and closed the door.
I pulled the blanket tight around me trying to calm my swirling emotions.
